A glimpse into one of our days

Everyone has different needs and requirements when relocating but here is a glimpse into a day in the life of a relocation concierge:

It’s Monday morning, and John, an executive Vice President at his company, is relocating from Belgium to work in Virginia Beach, USA for two years.

Ann, a relocation concierge, travels to the apartment John will be living in first thing in the morning to begin preparations for John’s arrival on Wednesday. During their initial conversation, Ann learns about John’s needs, preferences and timeline for the move. She took notes on specific requirements, such as:

  • desired neighborhoods
  • budget
  • must-have amenities for Johns new home
  • including that he will be bringing his beloved dog Jax with him on the trip. Dog beds, food and chew toys will be needed to complete the apartment.

Ann follows a detailed checklist to make sure everything has been taken care of on time and to a high specification:

  • Meeting the movers: it’s important that John’s household goods arrive safely and on time. To achieve this Ann personally oversees the movers, ensures that everything is accounted for and checks for damage
  • Ann has also obtained parking permits for the moving truck and ensured the service elevators in John’s apartment building are reserved for the move
  • Service professionals have been scheduled to assemble and arrange furniture, so John doesn’t have to worry about any of those tasks
  • Alarm and locksmith installation: security is crucial, especially in a new place. Ann oversees the installation of an anti-theft system, ensuring John’s peace of mind in his new apartment
  • Take care of utilities (gas, water, electricity) and internet service provider
  • Cleaning service coordination: moving can be messy. Ann coordinates with a housekeeper to ensure the apartment is thoroughly cleaned after the movers’ finish unloading, allowing John to settle into a fresh, tidy space
  • Pet supplies: picked up essentials like dog food, beds, and chew toys
  • Ann advised John what paperwork and shots Jax needed in Belgium to ensure a smooth transition for Jax to the USA
  • Made sure that John is greeted with a gift basket at his new apartment as well as basic foodstuffs such as milk and bread
  • Veterinary care for Jax: schedule a vet appointment for John to ensures that Jax is adjusting well after the journey
  • Local tour: schedule a tour around town to help John familiarize himself with his new surroundings and discover some hot spots

After John’s relocation is complete, Ann will be available as required to help with any remaining needs, such as:

  • opening a bank account
  • DMV appointments for license and vehicle tags
  • community orientations
  • arranging for future deliveries
  • Pet sitter and dog-walker
  • Animal shelter volunteer groups (John likes to help care for shelter animals during his free time)
