🇺🇸 Columbus Day – A Day of Reflection in the US

If you’ve recently moved to the States, you might notice that many banks, schools, and federal offices are closed today.
That’s because it’s Columbus Day, a federal holiday marking the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the Americas in 1492.

In recent years, many communities now celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day instead — honoring the culture, history, and strength of Native American communities.

For us at Atlantic Expats, it’s a reminder of what we love most: cultures meeting, learning, and growing together.

Enjoy the quiet of this uniquely American long weekend — and take a moment to reflect on the stories that shaped this country.

Repatriating soon? Don’t let a missing signature ruin your peace!

Moving back home after life abroad?
It’s always the little things that trip you up — like that one paper you forgot to sign, or the car sale that needs your name after you’ve already boarded your flight.
That’s why at Atlantic Expats, we help families prepare a simple Power of Attorney before they leave.
So if something needs signing once you’re gone, we can handle it for you (or help you appoint a friend who can).
Because repatriation should be about coming home, not coming back for paperwork 💛

✨ Retreat Update – Atlantic Expats Women’s Weekend ✨

It’s becoming real! Our first Atlantic Expats Retreat will most likely take place in a beautiful house near Duck, Outer Banks — surrounded by nature, with both the beach and the woods at our doorstep 🌿🌊

We’ll gather for a long weekend at the end of January (Friday to Monday) — three nights and three days filled with connection, reflection, and calm.

A wonderful cook will be taking care of us and 6 to 8 amazing women have already shown genuine interest. We’ll keep it intimate — a maximum of 10 participants — to truly share meaningful time together.

More details will follow soon, but for now… it’s time to dream of salt air, good food, and deep conversations by the fire 💛

At Atlantic Expats, we don’t just settle you into Hampton Roads; we also provide thoughtful support if you decide to relocate back to your home country.

Think of us as your personal guide for both journeys: we’ll help you tie up loose ends here, give you a clear checklist of what to handle in the States, and offer advice on preparing for your return home. While we focus on making your transition back as smooth as possible, we’ll be right here in Hampton Roads ensuring you have all the support you need.
In fact, we’re currently helping a family with their move back to Europe, so you’re in experienced hands.

💛 Angels among us 💛

Last night, one of my clients found out I was home alone these days…. They immediately invited me to have dinner with their family.
I can’t even describe how touched I was 🥹

This is exactly why I love what I do: helping people relocate, settle in, and then somehow becoming part of each other’s stories.

My clients are truly angels from heaven.
Grateful beyond words 🙏

Sometimes all it takes is a small gesture.
A smile.
An invitation.
A random act of kindness 💛

Because behind every expat who seems to have it all figured out…
there’s someone quietly learning how to belong again.

☕️ So here’s our little challenge:
Do something kind for a new expat this week.
Invite them for coffee.
Ask how they’re settling in.
Let them know they’re seen.

It might mean more than you’ll ever know! 💛
